Friends of MOTAP

Join us as a Friend of MOTAP.

Over recent years, numerous individuals and organizations have expressed their support for a Museum of the Troubles & Peace (MOTAP), either through direct endorsement or by participating in our workshops and conferences. Our vision is of a centre dedicated to interpreting the Northern Ireland Troubles and the Irish Peace Process from a variety of perspectives, and aiding the work of reconciliation in our still deeply divided society.

We now invite you to join this growing coalition by becoming an official Friend of MOTAP. By joining, you allow us to include your name among our listed supporters. This is a gesture of solidarity and does not imply any specific time commitment or obligation. We would very much appreciate your backing.

Your support will

  • Strengthen our campaign for a Museum of the Troubles & Peace.
  • Demonstrate wide-ranging civic and cross-community backing.
  • Help us realise this essential cultural and educational resource for Northern Ireland.

We would be honoured to feature you on the Friends of MOTAP page on our website, with any affiliation you may wish to add (optional).

Our objectives

A European symbol of peace and reconciliation.

Northern Ireland is the only region that is British, Irish, and European. Forged through a long history of political and social division, yet home to only two million people, it holds a unique potential to become a symbol of reconciliation and shared futures. The Belfast/Good Friday Agreement, warts and all, is a beacon of hope for regions around the world seeking to emerge from conflict. There is much that can be learned from the Northern Irish experience — and of course Northern Ireland can learn much from the wider world.

A Museum of the Troubles and Peace, located at a historic site in Belfast, could be a vital centre for reflecting on past divisions and shaping better futures. We propose a centre that features multiple interpretations of the past, that gives voice to marginalised groups, and that highlights the distinctive features of the Irish peace process. In other words, a museum that is more than a museum, and that uses immersive experiences to engage the local, national, and international public.
